The Shire, Westfarthing, Bag End, 3 Bagshot Row, Hobbiton
Now, where to begin. . .
Welcome to the Shire, home of the Hobbiton Movie Set where The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies were filmed.
When locations scouts found the Alexanders' spectacular 1250 acre sheep and beef farm just outside of Matamata, it was clear this would be the perfect setting for Sir Peter Jackson's adaptation of these classic works by J.R.R. Tolkien.
The bucolic setting for The Shire, home of the Hobbits, including Bag End, was right there, and just waiting for his magical director's touch.

I thought we needed to see Hobbiton before our mission ended. After all, we are only about 2 hours away from this lovely place. I am so grateful for the chance to see it, but now. . . I want to go again.
Wow! What a lovely place!
